These are purebred cats that are registered with a recognised cat registry, such as NZCF or another national/international body. They have documented lineage (pedigree), and their breed is officially recognised. Examples: Burmese, Siamese, British Shorthair, Russian, etc.

These are non-pedigree cats, often referred to as moggies.  They may be mixed breed or have no known pedigree, and are not registered with any cat registry.  Domestics are judged on condition, personality, and overall presentation.
